⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Ryuunosuke Uryuu
Age: No canon age is given, headcanonly he's 24
Canon: Fate/Zero (light novels)
Canon Point: After summoning Caster

Background: Ryuunosuke @ Fate/Zero Wiki | Light Novel Translations (this is pretty long but it covers all of Ryuunosuke's appearances in the light novels, if needed)
The light novels provide a much more detailed view on Ryuunosuke's thoughts and feelings, which is why I've chosen to take him from there instead of the anime. The anime features a scene where Rin Tohsaka confronts Ryuunosuke, but this is not present in the light novels. Aside from that, the anime and light novels have most of the same events.

Personality:
Ryuunosuke can easily be summed up with the phrase "cool." Everything he does is centered around the fact that it's "cool." Killing women and children? Cool. Summoning a demon? Cool. Attempting to make a pipe organ from a living girl? Cool-- Actually no, that one failed.

Ryuunosuke is a murderer. He's always been fascinated with death; "if blood and screams in splatter horror had been at least a little more realistic, he wouldn't have become a homicidal maniac." Ultimately what he wanted was to understand death, to experience it as often as possible and pretend to have some sort of pretentious understanding of it that no one else can have. Through the numerous murders he's committed he's not only learned the true nature of death, he's learned just how important life is. Ryuunosuke is very fond of his philosophies and he'll happily discuss them with those he thinks might have the ability to understand.

Oh, but that doesn't mean that he's careless with what he says. He knows what he's doing is illegal and frowned upon by society. Ryuunosuke isn't stupid. The majority of the murders he's committed are still considered missing persons cases. He's very good at disposing of the bodies and destroying any evidence. He has a good understanding of why he's not allowed to run around murdering people, but at the same time he sees no reason why he shouldn't. "...it is said that the number of births and deaths every day can be counted in the tens of thousands. What weight can Ryuunosuke have by becoming a murderer?"* Ryuunosuke enjoys killing, he feels no guilt whatsoever about the actions he takes, including murdering his entire family. He doesn't mind being compared to a demon - in fact, he likes the idea, calling himself "kind of a demon." Ryuunosuke is perfectly fine with the idea of being caught or killed, the only reason he goes to such lengths to avoid detection is because he'd rather continue killing than rot in prison. He holds no fear towards death at all, and later on in the light novels he thoroughly enjoys his own death. He gets a moment to marvel at the color of his insides and realize that what he was searching for his entire life was within him all this time. Ryuunosuke is not taken from this canon point, so he'll have no interest in dying, thankfully.

Ryuunosuke is a very laid-back person most of the time. He doesn't get angry at all during the course of Fate/Zero. He does get irritated and frustrated (usually at his own failures rather than anything anyone else has done), but he never gets angry. When he returns to his "workshop" to find it in ruins, Ryuunosuke doesn't get mad. Instead, he starts crying. He usually seems to be a very happy and upbeat person, but the sudden mood swing is actually fairly common. Usually this cycles from sad to pleased and he can do this in record time. Seeing all his "artwork" destroyed was heart-breaking for him, but Ryuunosuke doesn't take it as a personal attack, instead seeing it as an attack on the art itself. People simply don't appreciate his art; he understands this and accepts it for the most part, but when his hard work is destroyed, he overreacts to it.

Emotions are a bit of an odd thing for Ryuunosuke. Normally he seems to be a very emotional person; when he's happy, he's extremely happy, when he's upset, it's the end of the world. He can shift moods very easily, but it does take a lot to upset him - assuming you're not destroying his "art," of course. In reality, Ryuunosuke is faking emotions and normalcy. He understands what constitutes as "normal" and he does his best to replicate it so that he doesn't draw any unwanted attention to himself. He does have to lie low, after all. He doesn't need anyone knowing just what it is that he does in his spare time. Ryuunosuke does a decent job with this when he's not incredibly excited - once he finds something "cool," normalcy goes right out the window. He'll gladly shout about just how "cool" something is, even if that "something" is a massive monster about to destroy the city. Ryuunosuke cycles through emotions very quickly; he recovers very easily after bursting into tears when he discovers that his "art" has been destroyed - and within five minutes he's getting excited and smiling again. He bounces back to happiness very easily because his emotions are very shallow, and happiness is the easiest for him to mimic.

While Ryuunosuke's emotions can certainly be extreme, most of the time Ryuunosuke is completely apathetic. Prior to summoning Caster and witnessing the incredible things he's capable of, Ryuunosuke had felt almost nothing. He experienced excitement while killing people which was another reason for his interest in murder. Even that was starting to lose its charm though, which led him to murdering his family just to see if he'd feel something different. Summoning Caster allowed him to feel excitement again. At all other times he's almost completely apathetic, feeling very little and being almost completely incapable of seeing the world as everyone else does. His thoughts throughout Fate/Zero fluctuate wildly, from him claiming that the world is a beautiful, fascinating place, to insisting that everything is boring and people are horribly dull. His extreme mood swings play a major role in that, but most of the time Ryuunosuke doesn't feel very much and he doesn't understand people. Emotions are difficult for him to follow and react to in others, which has forced him to keep people at a distance so he doesn't draw attention to himself. This has led Ryuunosuke to become very bitter towards humanity and people in general. This is blatant towards the end of Ryuunosuke's part in Fate/Zero where he has an internal monologue about how stupid people are for having things like common sense. He's very angry at people in general, but it's so subdued that it's not something he's very aware of. He genuinely thinks he's alright with his life and that he isn't bitter towards humanity as a whole for being different than everyone else.

As mentioned before, Ryuunosuke is quite clever. He can hide the murders very easily and takes pride in covering up his tracks. He's quite manipulative and enjoys tricking people into believing that he's normal. Making friends is very easy for him, though all of his friends are on a very superficial level. Ryuunosuke also enjoys seducing women, so that he can kill them, of course. He's quite charming and respectful - the only thing that might give a woman pause is the fact that he doesn't always seem sincere. All of this gives him a momentarily thrill of having control over people and being able to con them into thinking he's normal, but ultimately it means nothing to him. Like everything else, the thrill he gets is short-lived and he's back to being apathetic within a short amount of time. Ryuunosuke isn't very good at reading people which means that staying in the same area with the same "friends" for too long is a terrible idea. Eventually it will become obvious that Ryuunosuke has no idea how to handle emotional situations and can really only manage to act like he's normal if he's cheerful and upbeat. Reacting to anything else doesn't usually go over very well. His success at this has led him to become overconfident in his abilities when in reality, he's only good at fooling people because he sets up his interactions in ways that will allow him an escape - whether that's ditching the potential victim or skipping town if he screws up in front of a "friend."

So it's rather obvious that Ryuunosuke isn't normal. He acknowledges that he's "kind of a demon" and he's doing things that are horrible, but he never says he's crazy. Ryuunosuke doesn't believe he's crazy, after all. He's just different; he sees the world in a way no one else can truly understand. Ryuunosuke certainly isn't sane by any stretch of the imagination. He's sadistic, cruel, cunning, manipulative, and clever; but he's also dreadful at pretending to be normal and almost completely apathetic without the ability to really connect to anyone. He hasn't slipped up yet, but he's getting sloppy. Ryuunosuke will do anything to maintain his image of "cool" and find something that will give him a momentary thrill. In short, he's a serial killer who's a bit too excited about his "art"; he's an artist who specializes in blood-spatter; he's a sadist who believes he's a philosopher. Ryuunosuke is a lot of things, but above all else, he's "cool."

    * - Light novel translations are slightly changed to be readable instead of garbled English.

Abilities:
As a Master, Ryuunosuke has Magic Circuits that allow him to use magic. Unfortunately for him, he has no training whatsoever. Ryuunosuke also has three Command Seals, which allow him to give his Servant (Caster) orders which he cannot disobey. That's a completely moot point however, since Caster isn't here. Otherwise Ryuunosuke is a completely normal human without any special abilities.

Alignment:
Elios. Ryuunosuke is certainly capable of feeling both hatred and love, though he never experiences love in any sort of traditional sense throughout the light novels. He loves what Caster is capable of doing and he certainly cares about Caster more than he does anyone else, but that is hardly a normal relationship. Hatred is something he experiences from the very beginning, however. Ryuunosuke's dislike of other people is blatant early on in the light novels and by his final scene it's obvious that Ryuunosuke hates humanity as a whole for not feeling the same things he does and seeing the world as he does. So while he's definitely going to lean more towards hatred, he is capable of feeling love as well and with his ridiculous mood swings, who knows what will be the strongest emotion there? Mostly Ryuunosuke is going to be apathetic, which should prove to be interesting.

As of 1/2/2015 Ryuunosuke is aligned to Aiada.

Other:
Ryuunosuke is an absolutely awful character who comes with plenty of triggering material. If he's accepted I'll be creating an opt-out post. Most of the time Ryuunosuke will not be bringing up his hobbies, since he does try to pretend to be normal around people. If he does bring up the murders and his "art" it will only be because he feels comfortable around the other person and I will ask for permission before putting any of that into a tag. I will never bring up sexual assault and he will never discuss his murders or the mutilation he does of the bodies in great detail - if he decides he wants to do that, I'm going to be censoring it. In Fate/Zero, Caster is Gilles de Rais, though this is not something Ryuunosuke knows and therefore will not discuss.

As for Ryuunosuke's suitability in game, he will not be running around murdering everyone left, right, and center if he's accepted. Ryuunosuke knows not to out himself as a serial killer within the first five minutes and will instead spend plenty of time learning about the new world around him before he even thinks of killing anyone. Part of Ryuunosuke's reasons for killing involve thrill-seeking, which is something he's capable of finding in other areas of life. A new world will certainly keep him interested for awhile. Another thing to note is that Ryuunosuke does not need to be the one killing people to get some sort of sick joy out of it. If people are dying, he's happy, regardless of who or what is responsible for the deaths (and as long as those deaths are sufficiently "cool"). Should Ryuunosuke decide he wants to go out and kill someone I will work with any players who are interested in such a thing or I will directly contact you guys with regards to the NPCs and Ryuunosuke's punishment. This section is basically just to say "yes, I know I'm apping a godawful character, but he's not going to murder the hell out of everyone, I'm so sorry."

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Sample:
Dangan Roleplay (pretending to be normal) + Dangan Roleplay (confessing to being a serial killer, also being generally crazy)
Dangan Roleplay is a murder mystery game based on Dangan Ronpa. These samples are from early in the game, when Ryuunosuke had no memories of his true canon point (which was post-death).

(Sample based on the test drive prompt D-3 for this month.)

Ryuunosuke Uryuu's life had been incredibly boring until about an hour ago. Some part of him hadn't expected the demon summoning ritual to work at all. Then again, this was the fourth time he'd tried it, so maybe that part of him was outweighed by senseless optimism. After all, the world simply couldn't be as boring as his life had led him to believe. Apparently he was right.

Waking up in a strange location is a new experience and Ryuunosuke takes a moment to stare up at the ceiling and walls before moving. "Huh..." Everything is gray and dull and the stones against his back are cold and a little damp. He pulls himself into a sitting position and surveys the area. "A castle...?" Maybe that's a bit of an overstatement. This doesn't look like a castle from a fairy tale. There are vines everywhere and some of them even seem to be moving. He would assume that it was a trick of the light, but there's very little light in here. Not that that bothers Ryuunosuke, he spends the vast majority of his time in the dark anyway.

Something shifts behind him and Ryuunosuke can feel the presence of something there. He turns enough to get a look at it and immediately his eyes go wide. Sitting there with its head reared back and long fangs showing is a massive snake. It must have been nearby when he woke up - either he didn't hear it approach or it's simply been waiting for the right moment to strike. There's no fear though, Ryuunosuke doesn't fear death.

"Cool!" The shout is loud and echoes around the chamber, causing the snake to flinch. Ryuunosuke is immediately on his feet, hands clenched into fists. He pumps one of them into the air and repeats the phrase, in horribly mangled English. "So cool! Oh my God, are you one of Bluebeard's monsters? Well, you look more like a snake than a tentacled monster, but still!" He turns and cups his hands around his mouth, "Bluebeard, sir! I found your snake-thing! It's really awesome!"

The snake seems to have absolutely no idea what to do with this and hesitates. Ryuunosuke turns back to it. His usually dead-looking eyes are now alive and sparkling, but that isn't the only change. The air around Ryuunosuke is crackling a bit with energy, though the change is slight enough that Ryuunosuke doesn't notice it. "Are you going to kill me?" He asks the snake, bouncing a little in place. "If you do, use your fangs, don't strangle me! That wouldn't be fun!"

Ryuunosuke's words mean nothing to the snake, but it does recognize the reaction in the air. This isn't joy or happiness though, it's excitement and it's dangerous. The snake quickly decides that this one isn't going to make a good meal and it immediately turns to slither off. Ryuunosuke looks disappointed. "Hey, where are you going? Come back!" The snake is entirely too quick and it slithers out of sight into the shadows, where Ryuunosuke can't see.

"Ugh." He groans, running a hand through his bangs. Immediately the crackling excitement in the air fades. For a brief moment there's nothing. Slowly the air around him begins to change again, but this time it's not any emotion that's causing it, but a lack of one. Ryuunosuke's apathy creates a black hole effect, the air darkening around him to signify that any and all emotions in his vicinity will be completely sucked in. "How boring."

He rolls his shoulders and turns toward the one exit he can see. The doorway is open and seems to lead out into a hallway. "Well, I guess there's really only one thing to do. I've gotta find Bluebeard." Ryuunosuke picks his way around the vines and leaves the darkened room, wincing a little against the light streaming into the corridor. The darkness around him doesn't fade any, but that makes it all the more apparent once his eyes have adjusted to the light. "Huh... That's really weird." He holds up his arms against the light and frowns. The darkness serves as an outline around his form, and no matter how he shifts or turns his arms, the darkness follows. "Really weird..." He repeats, but Ryuunosuke has more important things to do than to dwell on that, so he simply shrugs it off and continues down the hallway.

Apathy is Ryuunosuke's default state. It's not that he doesn't want to feel anything or that it's forced, it's that he naturally doesn't feel much. Excitement is about the only thing that breaks through for a little while, but that's always quick to fade. Ultimately what he's most familiar with is feeling nothing much at all. Even being tossed into a strange new situation hasn't changed that. It hasn't occurred to him that the snake fled because it sensed danger and it hasn't occurred to him that maybe the dark outline is because of what he feels, or a lack thereof. Instead, he's more focused on finding a way out. Everything else can be handled once he's found Bluebeard.
